Next Generation Science Standards is now available for public comment in Michigan

The State Board of Education (MDE) approved the release of the April 2013 NGSS for public comment at its April 2013 Board meeting. Therefore the State Board of Education
wants to gather feedback from the field and community for future consideration of NGSS adoption.

MDE has developed two surveys for collecting public comments on the NGSS.

  • A 15-item survey to provide overall comments and feedback on the NGSS
  • An optional survey to share information about the current landscape of science instruction in your school or district.

Please take time to share your thoughts about these standards with our State Board of Education. The State Board of Education needs to hear from all regions of our state
in order to plan support for the adoption and transition to the NGSS throughout Michigan. Please continue to make your voices heard. The surveys will be open until May 8.

Next Generation Science Standards Released!

The Next Generation Science Standards have been released! Go to Next Generation Science Standards http://www.nextgenscience.org to examine the new standards. Many supporting documents are also available on this site.

Yesterday, April 9, 2013, MSTA Leadership shared MSTA's position on the Framework with Michigan's State Board of Education during the public comment. We shared that MSTA is willing to support the work that remains to be done during the NGSS implementation.

To those of you who have participated in offering your thoughts, thank you for being part of the process of the external and or internal NGSS reviews. Michigan has consistently offered insightful scientific critique.
