About the Director:
Carolyn Lowe is a science educator in the School of Education at Northern Michigan University. She has a BS in Biology and an M.Ed. in Gifted Education from Oklahoma City University. Her particular focus in her masters program was on under- and un-achieving gifted students. After teaching middle and high school in Oklahoma for five years, she went back to school full time for her doctorate, a Ph.D., in Biological Education from the University of Northern Colorado where her dissertation was on the influence of a student's science process skills on misconceptions in the area of photosynthesis. Her content focus was on ecology and she studied bald eagles and assisted with a study of swift fox. She also has a cognate in meteorology - her second science love next to biology.
Today she teaches content courses for preservice elementary and secondary teachers, secondary science methods, and graduate courses in science education. She advised secondary undergraduate students as well as graduate students in science education.
Carolyn is the mother of five grown children and the grandmother of 6 grandchildren. She and her husband Kevin are also the keepers of a dog and a bird. They live about 13 miles from Marquette in the country.
