Thoughts from your Executive Director

Robby Cramer

Helping children understand and make sense of their world is the heart of science education. Think about all the different places where you learned about the world of science as a child. My 4H leader, Mrs. Jager, helped me identify early spring wildflowers on the edges of country roads. My father helped me analyze the quality of the waters of the Kalamazoo River in the early 1960's.

This year at the MSTA State Conference we are offering a strand focusing on informal science education. We are offering sessions that will explore various aspects of science education that happens beyond the formal school setting, school day, or year.

Come learn about grant writing for informal programming. Explore the key elements of informal science programs that will enable successful programming in your community.

Listen to the stories of informal educators in the field as they share how they are helping students to think and act like scientists, conducting preschools located outdoors, after school programming by hands on science museums, and helping students to discover brain and learning strategies that help to learn science. You will take away strategies and activities that you can use in a variety of settings.

All of these sessions will be in the Governor's Room of the Lansing Center. Discover ways to expand the world of science for children in your community.

Think about where you have taught some of your most powerful lessons about science. See you at the conference!
