Fiftieth Anniversary History

The 21st Century

As the 21st Century began, the MSTA was no longer simply a group of interested science educators that launched the Association in 1953. Rather, MSTA through its leadership and supporting membership has evolved into a living dynamic organization of science professionals, dedicated to making science education available to all citizens of Michigan.

MSTA has become the leader and advocate for science education in the state and is poised to take an even greater leadership role in the future. MSTA has become one of the strongest state organizations for science education in the country and is at the forefront of education reform for science. In 2001/2002 MSTA, through support from the National Science Teachers Associations' Exxon/Mobil grant, partnered with the MDE and the Math/Science Center Network and launched the Building a Presence (BaP) for science education program in Michigan, with the goal of identifying Key Leader advocates and individual building Points of Contact for science education in all schools in our state.

With over 3500 members, MSTA has a large base of talented professionals that can make things happen in Michigan even during trying economic times. MSTA, by taking advantage of its strengths, will continue to grow and expand its efforts to bring the best SCIENCE EDUCATION to all citizens of MICHIGAN.
