Region 2 Director: Crystal Brown

Crystal Brown grew up with a passionate curiosity for all things science, but had no idea she would end up a teacher. She graduated from MSU where she played trumpet, and started her teaching journey in 2002. After teaching 4th grade for 14 years, she was offered a new position as a STEM specials teacher at the elementary level and is entering her 7th year at this position. In 2008, she was awarded the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching for her work in Elementary Science. She is currently serving her second year as Regional Director after serving on the board as Director-at-Large and Elementary Director for 8 years. One of her board responsibilities is the review of the MSTA LINKS publication. She loves to read the ideas and celebrate the creativity of MI Science Teachers. She has also been an article reviewer for the NSTA Science & Children Journal since 2018. When she is not teaching, she can be found training for her next half marathon, toasting a yummy craft beer with her husband of 14 years, chasing after their toddler Katie (2,) or driving one of their big kids Megan (13) to volleyball  and Ryan (11) to robotics.
