Region 8 Director: Rebecca Field

Rebecca has been an elementary teacher for over 25 years and has earned her Master’s degree in Teaching Natural Science.  Science has always been a favorite subject of hers due to the high engagement the students have with the concepts and the hands-on experience.  Most of her science related professional development has focused on finding ways to further understand the content and developing  activities and experiences that will benefit her students.  Her classroom teaching, as well as her involvement with professional activities, reflect a belief in community involvement, collaboration, and support with educators.  She has participated in the Great Lakes Bay Region Math Specialist Program, is a Dow Innovation Teacher Fellow and Alumni, and a Dow Corning Foundation-SVSU-Community STEM Partnership Fellow.  She was on the inaugural Governing Board for the American Association of Chemistry Teachers  and she’s a certified instructor for the Chemical Education Foundation.  She’s a past winner of the SVSU STEM Star award, Elementary School Chemistry Teacher of the Year for AACT, and Elementary Science Teacher of the Year for the Midland American Chemical Society.  Currently, she is a consulting teacher for the Michigan State University’s MothEd Program and a coordinator for the You Be The Chemist Challenge.

She loves being with her children-Emma and Isaiah.  Emma is going to MSU in the fall to become a doctor.  Isaiah goes to Freeland High School, plays tuba in the band, and is on the golf team.  She loves to read, and her favorites include  Harry Potter and LOTR
