From Ideas to Impact:  Simple Strategies to let Science Shine in a LINKS publication

Brief description:

Have a great science idea, lesson, or strategy to share, but aren’t sure how to turn it into an article? This webinar will make the process simple! Teachers will learn how to organize their thoughts, structure their ideas, and turn their classroom experiences into an easy-to-write article for the MSTA quarterly publication, LINKS. You’ll leave with practical tips and a simple approach for letting your ideas shine on the page.

 Learning Outcomes:

        • Understand the expectations and format of a LINKS article
        • Use a writing template to organize your thoughts and ideas.
        • Take a classroom experience and become a published author!

        Speakers:

Crystal Brown, MSTA LINKS Editor and Conference Chair

Crystal Brown has been igniting the spark of curiosity in elementary students since 2002. She started her career in fourth grade at Parsons Elementary in Gibraltar Schools, where she taught for 14 years. At this time, STEM education was very new but the love of integrating technology and engineering drove her to start using more STEM education as a cornerstone in fourth grade science. In 2016, she was awarded with the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics (PAEMST) and Science for Elementary Science. In 2017, Gibraltar added a STEM special for elementary students and Crystal was first in line to apply. She drove curriculum development for the program and has now been teaching an elementary STEM special at Hunter Elementary in Gibraltar for 9 years. In addition to her teaching career, Crystal has always loved the collaboration and inspiration she finds as a member of the Michigan Science Teachers Association (MSTA.) As a member she attended many conferences, but in 2012 she began presenting at conferences as a board member and new Director at Large. Since then she has also held the seat of Elementary Director and is now currently serving as Region 2 Director. Crystal also maintains the editor position for MSTA’s LINKS publication, released quarterly, providing resources and ideas for science educators from educators across the state of Michigan. As an NSTA member, Crystal has served as an article reviewer for NSTA’s Journal Science and Children since 2018. Recently she was chosen to serve on the NSTA Early Childhood – Elementary Science (EC-ES) Committee. This committee is focused on providing a strong elementary and early childhood perspective to the work of NSTA’s leadership.
