Title:

Salmon in the Classroom

Brief description:

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is proud to help almost 400 teachers around the state raise and learn from young Chinook salmon. The history of salmon in Michigan stems begins with invasive species, drastic ecosystem changes, and human resource use. Learn this complex story and we weave history and science to understand our Great Lakes.

 Learning Outcomes:

        • Learn the history of salmon in the Great Lakes
        • Learn how invasive species have altered the ecosystem
        • Learn how MI DNR Fisheries and the Salmon in the Classroom program work together to help the public understand our ecosystem and sportfish’s role.

        Speaker:

Tracy Page is the Education Manager for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. For the last nine years she was the aquatic education coordinator and ran the Salmon in the Classroom program. Tracy has a dual undergraduate degree in marine biology and oceanography from the University of Hawaii-Hilo, a Master’s in Zoo and Aquarium Management from Michigan State University and is ABD in her Doctorate of Education from Valdosta State University.
